Most of you are probably somewhat familar with this book, and some may have read it already. If you are not at all familar with the book
and are interested, I suggest you check out the Course in Miracles
website,
www.acim.org. If
anyone is interested in joining me in March 2010, I plan to email the
title of the lesson for the day as a reminder to stay on course with
the workbok for the entire year. It might also be useful if anyone has
questions or comments about the lessons to share them with the email
group.
The plan will go something like this...
1. In February, organize a group interested in working through the lessons and give everyone in the group the rest of this month to
get a copy of the book. Amazon has new copies available for about $28,
and cheaper for used copies.
2. On March 1, I will send an email reminder to read Lesson 1 of the workbook. Most lessons are one to two pages long. The idea though
is that you follow through the rest of the day keeping the lesson in
mind and practicing with it in whatever way the lesson suggests.
3. On March 2 and throughout the rest of the year, I will continue to send an email reminder to read the next day's lesson. If
anyone has questions or comments about the content of the lesson, we
can have an email discussion about it. If at any time, you choose to
opt out, I can take your name off the email list.
4. If participants would like to get more involved and tackle reading the text of A Course in Miracles, I will send a suggested
reading amount each day so that if someone did the reading, that person
would complete the entire text by the end of the year as well...this is
strictly optional, of course. The text is 622 pages long. The purpose
of the e-study group is simply to act as a support system for all of us
as we live our busy lives, a sort of reminder to keep practicing the
lessons (sort of like Weight Watchers, but without the dieting!) :-)
A Course in Miracles was a joint effort by two professors of Medical Psychology at Columbia University's College of Physicians and
Surgeons in New York City. The text was taken as "dictation" through
Helen Schucman, a self-professed "conservative in theory and atheistic
in belief." The process took seven years to complete.
The following is the Introduction to A Course in Miracles.
This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you
can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what
you want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching
the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does
aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love's
presence, which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is
fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.
This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way:
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.
So if you feel inclined to undergo a tune up this year with me, let me know and I will put you on the "lesson a day"
email list. If you know of anyone who may be interested and would like
to be included, let me know as well.

"Man must realize that Divinity cannot dwell in harmony with fear. Therefore, the mind most free of fears is the mind
closest to Divine Wisdom, or God. The person equipped with such a mind
will be blessed with the Light of Divine Guidance and can find his way
on any path he may choose!"
Hamid Bey, The Power of the Mind versus Fear
"If you were conscious, that is to say totally present in the Now, all
negativity would dissolve almost instantly. It could not survive in
your presence."
Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now
