Most of us have tried to find inner peace by trying – sometimes trying very hard – to manage everything on the outside be be exactly as we want it to be. This weekend will not be about how to perfect that strategy. It will be about finding what is whole and complete and fulfilled already. If we wait for the outside world to measure up to what we think it “should be,” we will wait a very, very long time. While this may sound like fatalism, we may find that it is actually what frees us to function harmoniously in a way that can be of true benefit to others and to the world at large.
The retreat is a non-denominational opportunity to explore one’s own deepest nature. Don Oakley, author of the new Five Star rated book on Amazon, “It’s Time to Wake Up Now: The Top Ten Myths That Can Hijack Spiritual Awakening,” will give a guided meditation Friday evening and will lead a guided inquiry session on Saturday morning. The remainder of the weekend will be devoted to silent sittings, opportunity for structured sharing, exploring Nature on our 160 acre land, Possibly some light Yoga, walking along our 2 1/2 miles of river frontage, reading (we have an extensive library), or just catching up on your rest.
The retreat is free but we ask that you bring and prepare one meal. Depending on the number of people attending, two people may be responsible for a supper or a breakfast, for example. (We expect that 15 – 20 people might attend.) In this way, you will have an opportunity to serve and to be served. You will also be asked to help with kitchen clean-up for one or two of the meals – usually a 20 or 30 minute endeavor. You may be surprised to find that these “yogi chores” can create a sense of community and surprisingly deep friendships with others even during a brief weekend retreat
