Windhorse Zen Community, Malaprop’s Bookstore and Urban Dharma will be co-hosting a talk and workshop with innovative Zen teacher and author David Loy on November 16 and 17.
At 7:00 PM on Friday, November 16, Loy will give a talk and book-signing at Malaprops Bookstore & Café at 55 Haywood St. in downtown Asheville.
At 9:45 AM on Saturday, November 17, Windhorse teachers Sunya Kjolhede and Lawson Sachter will join David in leading a workshop, “The Alchemy of Zen,” to be offered at Urban Dharma, 29 Page Ave. In this workshop we’ll be exploring ways to see into and transform the root causes underlying the enormous individual, social and global issues we all now face. Participants will break for lunch at 11:45, after which the workshop will continue from 1:00 to 3:30 PM.
David Loy is a Zen teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan tradition. He has been practicing Zen for over 40 years, and is the author of many books including, The Great Awakening, Money Sex War Karma: Notes for a Buddhist Revolution, and most recently The World Is Made of Stories. His articles appear regularly in Buddhist journals such as Tricycle, Buddhadharma, Shambhala Sun, and Turning Wheel. Loy offers retreats and workshops throughout the U.S. and the world, with a focus on the social and ecological implications of Buddhist teachings.
Lawson Sachter and Sunya Kjolhede are both dharma heirs of Roshi Philip Kapleau, and have been practicing Zen for over 40 years. They live and teach at Windhorse Zen Community, near Asheville, and are the spiritual directors of sister groups in Florida and Poland. |
