Kaveen will recite the poetry of Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, Gibran, et al. Musical accompaniment by Theo Chappell and Daniel Chambo. Sufi whirling by Gloria Mahin. Masonic Lodge downtown.

Among the poems being read will be one by Lalla, who was a Kashmiri mystic in the 1300's, is revered as a Sufi saint, and among the few women poets from medieval times (whose poetry was preserved).

Gloria Mahin, who is joining Kaveen for dance, whirling and spontaneous movement will also recite a Rumi poem in Persian. The Lodge Room, where this event is being held, is a sacred space for ritual (not like the rituals described in fiction!!) and is a venue that lends itself to the mystical element of the whole evening.

Tickets onsale at Malaprop's through June 24th: $15. At the door tickets: $18. Cash or check only please.

“This is how I would die into the love I have for you: as pieces of clouds dissolve in the Sunshine.”
~ Rumi

  • Gotcha.
  • Hello Asheville Sangha,

Would like to add to the above, that among the poems being read will be one by Lalla, who was a Kashmiri mystic in the 1300's, is revered as a Sufi saint, and among the few women poets from medieval times (whose poetry was preserved).

The woman, Gloria Mahin, who is joining Kaveen for dance, whirling and spontaneous movement will also recite a Rumi poem in Persian. The Lodge Room, where this event is being held, is a sacred space for ritual (not like the rituals described in fiction!!) and is a venue that lends itself to the mystical element of the whole evening. I encourage Asheville Sangha members who live in or near the city to come. This is an event you won't want to miss.

Thanks Cullen, for posting this ♥ Amana
