THE FEVER AND DELIRIUM FROM THE ANCIENT VIRUS

© 2009 Howard McQueenThe old habits linger, hoping to again feed and snack. The false fellowship held in these ancient, resurrected addictions, their remains, the occasional energetictug and pull, the ever-cajoling,sweet,intoxicating whispers, not fully powered down yet, still running, within my own operating systemI recall the wisdom teaching contained in the story of Odysseus and the SirensThe crew, all their ears filled with wax.Odyssey himself, only his ears remaining un-waxed,His body, triple lashed to the mast. The crew under strict orders to row,And row even harderWhen their captain began his protestingsand projecting the great Addiction. All ships that had sailed within the audible refrainof the sweet, heavenly allure of the siren sisters, are now ships that all lay silent upon the sea floor, their crew’s meat and flesh picked totally clean from the bones.Odysseus allowed himself to hear and experience the Great Temptation, remembering to install safeties to secure his education. In the throes of our addictions and underlying fears, the call of self-destruction is so very near,so clear and strong.Be patient, dear loved one. This urge too will break, and the great delirium of the ancient fever you will shake. Then, a subtler, far greater love of Selfwill begin to reel you in.You stand not a chance, you will surrender, sooner or later, and it will be so very, very sweet, this returning to our Source, our Oneness in Spirit.
